Hooker Creek is a company with approximately 350 team memers, most of whom are on the highways and jobsites of Central Oregon everyday. They are out in the field delivering equipment & concrete, paving, and mining. With that intense involvement in the construction world, it is crucial to have a stringent safety program that is maintained and continually updated. No program can be effective without planned implementation.
Our safety program at Hooker Creek is one of the
best. We just recently won the 2005 Central Oregon
Builder's Association (COBA) top annual "commercial
construction" safety award. Only two safety awards are
given annually; one for commercial construction and one for
residential construction. According to Ken Greenhill,
Safety and Loss Control Consultant for COBA, "There were
several very good companies being considered for this award and
it was a tough decision, but Hooker Creek's safety program
design and implementation is definitely cream of the
crop." Greenhill also stated that Hooker Creek winning
this award was especially impressive due to the diversity of
the company.
Hooker Creek employs a full time safety director whose job is to maintain, update, and inform the team about the ever-changing landscape of safety issues. He's doing a great job: our safety MOD rate dropped to .66 from the previous year's .70. This is outstanding to see, especially considering the industry average is over 1.00.
